City stars lift lid on Berwick

JIM JEFFERIES and John Hughes recall their days at Scotland's only English football club in a new book published on Monday.

The Lone Rangers, by Tom Maxwell, features interviews with the former city football bosses, both of whom played for Berwick Rangers, and also features contributions from ex-international stars such as Gary Lineker, Pat Nevin, Ally McCoist and Trevor Steven.

Jefferies, who managed Hughes at Berwick in the late 1980s, provides the foreword to the book, which is being launched in the Northumbrian town on Monday. Several members of Berwick's legendary giant-killing side of 1967 will be there and the launch coincides with the 60th anniversary of the club's very first match as a senior Scottish side. The Lone Rangers - An English club's century in Scottish football, is published by Northumbria Press, 17.99 (hard cover). For more details visit www.thelonerangers.co.uk
