City slicker in cup challenge

EDINBURGH CITY travelled to Glasgow and beat West Region Juniors side St Anthony's 2-1 to lift the Stuart Black Memorial Trophy thanks to goals from Ross Guthrie and Ian McFarland.

"We played well in spells," said City's joint manager, Gary Jardine.

Whitehill Welfare continued their impressive pre-season form when they defeated Stobswood Welfare 4-1 with second-half goals from Andrew Kidd, Ross Aitchison, Scott Gormley and Jordan Hall.

"We were sluggish in the first half although there was a vast improvement in the second," said Whitehill manager Paul Cavanagh.

Vale of Leithen beat Shields United 3-0 with goals from Scott Moffat, Kerr Dodds and Gavin Tainsh while West Calder United beat Lothian Thistle 2-1, Lothian's goal coming courtesy of Craig Stewart.

Craigroyston beat Penicuik Amateurs 5-1 with goals from David Anderson, Steve Manson and a hat-trick from a trialist. Civil Service Strollers lost 2-1 to a Raith Rovers XI while Tynecastle's Wayne McIntosh notched a hat-trick in their 4-1 win against Dundonald Bluebell with David Bingham also on the scoresheet.
