Ryan Brown, who was a top performer at the Brodies Scottish Schools' Championships, and Anna Fleming competed alongside the best swimmers in Britain at the Team GB Olympic trials at Tollcross in Glasgow last week.

The City of Glasgow pair are hoping for their own slice of international competition this summer.

Ryan, who left Kelso High School last summer, won the Target Tokyo final in the 200m butterfly, securing a consideration time for the European Junior Championships in Hungary in July.

Anna, from the High School of Glasgow, is a very promising 15-year-old. She raced to fifth in the Target Tokyo final in the 50m freestyle (in a new Scottish Age Group record time of 26.19 secs) and later claimed third place in the 100m freestyle junior final, both swims also putting her in contention for a spot on the European Junior team.

“I’m really pleased with the outcomes for our swimmers delivered at this event,” said City of Glasgow’s head coach, Ian Wright, who is hoping that Camilla Hattersley will be included in the Olympic team. “The Olympic trials is the toughest meet on the domestic calendar and the Glasgow swimmers stuck to their task extremely well and were in great form throughout.

“We must now wait for the British and Scottish selectors to consider their options for the important international meets and trips ahead.”
