City hold strong to overcome Strollers

Edinburgh CITY were the first to adapt to the appalling conditions and took the lead of this King Cup, first round tie in the 16th minute.

Ruairidh Scott won a loose ball on the left side of midfield and threaded a pass to Dougie Gair, who beat two men to fire a low, diagonal shot past home goalkeeper Burnside.

Play raged from end to end, with Burgess blocking many City attacks and John Dunn seeing a shot rebound from the City post with Stobie beaten.

Strollers took control of the match after the restart, keeping the visitors penned in their own half with Dunn, Calvey and Wilson prominent. But City fought back and sealed the match ten minutes from time when Gair's corner hit the underside of the bar and Euan Black forced the ball in from close range.

Stobie then made two late saves to keep Strollers at bay.
