Chris Clark seals return to Pittodrie

ABERDEEN have completed the return of Chris Clark and the loan signing of Manchester City goalkeeper David Gonzalez, and confirmed the departure of Chris Maguire after a compensation package was agreed with Derby County.

Clark comes back to Pittodrie on a three-year contract after leaving for Plymouth in a 200,000 deal in January 2008. Gonzalez, meanwhile, has signed a six-month loan deal after spending the end of last season with Championship side Leeds.

Clark began his career with the Dons in 1997, making 235 appearances and scoring 11 goals in his first spell with the club. He said: "It's been a difficult time at Plymouth recently with their off-the-field problems but I feel I'm a better player for the experience. I know other clubs were interested but the family love it in the north east and it's fantastic to see so many familiar faces."

Aberdeen manager Craig Brown was thrilled to sign Clark as his second summer signing. He said: "I remember him from his original time at Aberdeen and I remember that is he is a very good player. His availability was too good an opportunity for us to refuse so we are delighted he has committed himself to Aberdeen. His versatility is the main attribute he has. He is able to play in a number of different positions. He is a very fit guy and a very good professional. He will be a great addition to the squad."

Brown's capture of Clark was swiftly followed by the signing of Gonzalez after the Dons received official clearance for the player. The Colombia international goalkeeper had spells in South America and Turkey before moving to Manchester City in January 2010. The 28-year-old will join up with his new team-mates at the Dons' pre-season training camp in the Netherlands next weekend.

Maguire, 22, has penned a three-year deal with Derby and manager Nigel Clough said: "Chris is an exciting talent who has great potential to improve further. He is a creative player and someone who can bring a spark to the team.

"He's still young and will develop and improve, but having played in the Scottish Premier League and made his international debut he already has the quality to be competitive in our squad and team."
