Changing room chat: Screen test for Lewis’s shinty story

LEWIS Camanachd’s journey to becoming the first Western Isles club in shinty’s senior leagues is to be the subject of a TV documentary, screened this Monday.

Lewis Camanachd - Black and Blue will be aired on BBC Alba and charts the club’s historic first season in Camanachd Association competition.

The club gained entry into league competition on a trial period of a year and officials will make a decision on whether to retain Lewis at the end of this month. The documentary follows manager Paul Duke and the team and recaps on the efforts made to re-introduce shinty to the island. Club official Eoghan Stewart, who helped broker the deal which saw Lewis incorporated into league shinty hopes the exposure will help convince the authorities to grant Lewis an extended stay in the leagues.

He said: “This year has been an unbelievable ride for everyone involved with shinty in Lewis and Harris. The level of play has increased beyond recognition as has the profile of the sport in the islands. Throughout the season we proved time and again our worth as a member of the Shinty family.”
