Jim, who was wheeled out at 8pm as the big night reached its climax, could hardly contain himself, prompting his co-presenter Hayley McQueen - daughter of Scotland legend Gordon - to post on twitter: "I'd love to tweet all the breaking news & transfers but I am wiping the brow of Jim White between breaks."

White read out an email from a viewer in Cambridge who was campaigning for transfer deadline day to be declared a Bank Holiday - not a bad shout.

The reporter found himself lost for words when he asked the Senegalese if he was ready to make his debut in the "cauldron" of the Old Firm. "Why not Wednesday?" replied Diouf, rendering Tanner, who it appeared had forgotten Rangers host Hearts at Ibrox tonight, momentarily speechless.
