Changing Room Chat: Irish World Cup gamble pays off

AN Irish punter scooped €10,000 after placing a €25 bet just moments after Ireland's fortunes began to turn in Wednesday's sensational Cricket World Cup win over England.

The bet was placed as Kevin O'Brien started to get going on his way to the fastest century in World Cup history. With the Irish five wickets down chasing 328 to win the odds had soared to 399/1. But, as ever, the bookies didn't lose out. Around €3m was traded on Betfair at odds of 1/100 on England winning after the completion of their innings.
