Changing Room Chat: Heads up on refs’ futuristic vision

RUGBY League referees will be the first officials to use Google’s ‘Augmented Reality Eyewear’ on a permanent basis, according to Ladbrokes.

The book is now open on which set of officials will take up the state-of-the art glasses which come with a microphone and partly-transparent video screen, and the bookies have league whistlers at 5/4 with rugby union refs 2/1 chances. It’s 5/1 the glasses are first seen in the Premier League and 10/1 cricket umpires. Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “Rugby League has always been a sport to embrace change.”
