Changing room chat: Dr Dettori dons his cap and gown

FRANKIE Dettori was made an Honorary Doctor of Science at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge yesterday.

The jockey left his native Italy at 14 with little formal education in order to become a stable lad in Newmarket, but his racecourse achievements have made him a household name. Dettori was chosen by the university, a leader in equine science, for his services to racing. “My father-in-law is a professor and I can’t believe he can call me Dr Dettori now!” he joked. “Perhaps they could put that on a racecard. Just the once though.”
