Champions start well

SUPER League Champions Bo'ness started well, hitting the woodwork twice in the first minute and Whitburn's defenders blocked a couple of goalbound shots minutes later.

Whitburn, however, steadied and began to look dangerous themselves, new signing Andy Thompson giving the visiting defence no end of trouble.

Thompson won a free-kick 22 yards out in the 28th minute which he took and forced a fine save from keeper Ryan McGurk.

But the deadlock was broken in the 33rd minute when David Morrison of Bo'ness fired into the top corner from 30 yards..

The second came on the hour when Paul Shields was found by a Chris McFadyen cross and he powered the ball into the net from five yards. Shields almost scored again from a similar situation but he scooped his shot over. The third killer goal came after 73 minutes. Andy Shirra pounced on a loose ball and slammed the ball high into the net. Gary Millar grabbed a consolation for Whitburn with a great shot from a tight angle.
