Celtic League derby wins for Ulster, Scarlets

Ulster secured a much-needed 33-17 RaboDirect PRO12 win over Munster at Ravenhill last night after their heavy defeat to Leinster on Boxing Day.

Brian McLaughlin’s side kept their play-off hopes alive with this thumping bonus point win over a weakened Munster outfit. Ian Humphreys ended the night scoring 15 of the home side’s points – from a try, two conversions and two penalties. His effort supplemented first-half tries form Stefan Terblanche and John Afoa, with the scoring being completed by Ruan Pienaar.

Scarlets moved into the top five with a Johnathan Edwards try being the difference in their 10-6 win over the Dragons in Newport. Home fly-half Jason Tovey kicked two first-half penalties before going off at half-time, while Dan Newton converted Edwards’ try, with Aled Thomas adding a penalty for the Scarlets, fresh from their 22-14 Boxing Day win against Ospreys.
