Cavanagh kicks off with a win

WHITEHILL WELFARE's new manager, Paul Cavanagh, was delighted with his side's 3-0 victory against SFL Third Division opponents Arbroath in last night's pre-season friendly.

The former Stirling Albion and Berwick Rangers player, in his first game in charge of the Rosewell club, said: "Although Arbroath were technically superior, we are more than happy with the result.

"It just shows what can be done with hard work and closing down the opposition. Our goalkeeper, Youssef Bejaoui, also had to make a few good saves although, overall, we are delighted."

Whitehill opened the scoring midway through the first half courtesy of an Andrew Kidd penalty. Shortly afterwards, trialist Ross Aitchison was on hand to fire home from close range and although Arbroath missed a penalty, Whitehill were always in command.

Whitehill were awarded a second-half penalty which Kidd did not convert before Ross Allum burst through to slip the ball home for a convincing victory on the night.
