Carlton eye another sixes title

A STRONG Carlton side will launch the defence of their Super Sixes title against Scottish Cup winners Uddingston.

The Grange Loan outfit have also been drawn against student indoor specialists Edinburgh University as they bid for a fifth success in the last 11 years.

Led by Saltires batsman Fraser Watts, Carlton could field an all-Scotland six and start strong favourites to continue their dominance of the competition.

Watts said: "The guys love the indoor tournament and are determined to win it again."

Capital rivals Heriot's and Watsonians have been drawn together for the third year running while SNCL champions Grange are favourites to progress from a group containing the Eastern Academy and minnows Murrayfield. Previous winners Freuchie will face national league rivals Stenhousemuir and SMRH.

The competition gets under way at the National Academy in Edinburgh on 7 January.

Group A - Heriot's, Watsonians, Edinburgh Accies.

Group B - Freuchie, Stenhousemuir, SMRH.

Group C - Carlton, Edinburgh University, Uddingston.

Group D - Eastern Academy, Murrayfield DAFS, Grange.
