Capital stars are on track for success

Capital riders are contenders for all six of the titles up for grabs in tomorrow’s rescheduled opening session of the Scottish Track Championships (first race 10am).

The programme was washed out earlier in the season but organisers are keen for the racing to take place tomorrow in what is likely to be the final championship to be staged at Meadowbank, with the indoor facility at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow due to open next month.

Among the potential winners are Louise Borthwick of Edinburgh Road Club in the junior women’s pursuit, Louise Haston in the senior women’s pursuit, Bruce Croall in the men’s kilometre time trial and sprint, and Dave Martin (Bicycleworks) in the men’s pursuit. City of Edinburgh will also be looking to extend their record of never having lost in the team sprint.

The sprint doubles up as the penultimate round of the British Sprinters League and has attracted entries from as far afield as Kent. City of Edinburgh rider Kenny Ayre currently leads the series and will be looking to put on a show at his home track.

The final round of the competition takes place at the Caird Park Autumn Meeting in Dundee on Sunday.
