Canoeing: Florence disappointed to miss C1 medal

Edinburgh's David Florence failed to add to his medal collection as he missed out on the C1 final at the World Slalom Championships in Tacen, Slovenia.

The Olympic silver medallist was second-fastest in Wednesday's heats and hoped to match or better Saturday's C2 bronze, but clipping gate 11 cost him dear in the semis.

His time of 101.05secs would have been quick enough to make the all-important top ten but a two-second penalty saw him miss the final by just 0.95secs in 12th place.

"It was a disappointing day, but I gave it my best shot," said Florence. "There were bits where I didn't quite get it right. Watching the final was hard because my time in qualifying was good enough for a silver medal. But that's just the way it goes. You have to get to the final, and it just didn't happen for me. It was awesome to win a medal in the C2."

Florence recovered from his semi-final exit to help Britain to sixth place in yesterday's C1 team event.
