Camelon book another final with Linlithgow

CAMELON and Linlithgow set up a repeat of last year's Dechmont Forklift League Cup final after they both came through tough semi-final encounters against Bo'ness United and Arniston Rangers respectively last night.

Holders Camelon booked their place in the showpiece after beating the Super League champions 5-4 on penalties at Carmuirs Park.

The teams were inseparable after 90 minutes, with visitors Bo'ness twice having to come from behind to ensure a 2-2 draw.

But in the shoot-out, Will Snowdon proved to be the unfortunate fall guy for the away side, as he missed the crucial spot-kick.

And in the other match, Linlithgow made home advantage count when they won 3-1 against Arniston, who are often considered to be one of their bogey teams.

Camelon made a bright start and opened the scoring in the 15th minute when striker Joe Savage ran in on goal before drilling home.

The hosts held the lead until the interval, but Bo'ness equalised from the penalty spot when Andy Shirra made an immaculate job from 12 yards after Gary Carroll was brought down in the box.

The teams were level for all of two minutes before Graham Guy restored Camelon's lead with a spot-kick after Savage was brought down in the box.

However, Bo'ness refused to be beaten and hauled themselves level almost instantly with yet another penalty.

This time it was Nicky Walker who was brought down, with Shirra again applying the finishing touch from the spot. It was end-to-end stuff as both sides went searching for a winner but in the end, they both had to make do with a shoot-out, which saw Camelon progress after Bo'ness captain Snowdon had seen his kick saved by the keeper.

Linlithgow, who have toiled against Arniston in recent years, looked set for another struggle when the visitors raced into the lead. After only two minutes, Lewis Coults pounced on a bad mistake by the Rose defence to round the keeper and roll the ball into the net.

But midway through the first half, Linlithgow's Scott Wilson levelled the tie when he drove the ball home from 12 yards after John Ward had headed a corner to him.

The match remained evenly-poised at the interval but the hosts stepped up a gear in the second half and just on the hour mark they took the lead courtesy of a superb goal.

Chris King was the man who scored it as he curled a real cracker into the net off the post.

And ten minutes later, the same player tied up the victory when he caught the Arniston keeper off his line.
