Raymond Russell and Chris Doak, who shared fifth place in Ahmedabad at the end of January, have also forked out a considerable sum to make the trip to South America, as have Lloyd Saltman, Jamie McLeary, Jack Doherty and Scott Henry.

Also in the field is Englishman Nick Dougherty, the former Dunhill Links champion who lost his main Tour card at the end of last season and was able to get it back at the Qualifying School in Spain.

“I’ve never played a regular Challenge Tour event before, so it’s a bit of an unknown quantity for me,” admitted Dougherty.

“I just need to get back to basics now.”
