Burley lines up Dorman for Palace

CRYSTAL Palace manager George Burley is close to completing the signings of former Southend captain Adam Barrett and out-of-contract St Mirren midfielder Andy Dorman.

The former Scotland manager said: "Andy is an attacking midfielder who can score goals and has been playing regularly in the Scottish Premier League. He's out of contract and we're hoping to complete that."

Hamilton, meanwhile, have signed former Dorman's former St Mirren team-mate Jack Ross. The 34-year-old has joined the New Douglas Park side on a season-long contract.

Ross was released by Saints at the end of the season after two years at the Paisley club. He also had spells with Dundee, Hartlepool United and Falkirk.

Accies manager Billy Reid said: "Jack is a player I have admired for some time and I'm delighted to bring him into our squad."

Elsewhere, Southend have appointed Paul Sturrock as their new manager on a three-year deal. Sturrock, 53, has been out of work since leaving Plymouth in April and brings former Salisbury manager Tommy Widdrington as his assistant.

Norwich have signed 23-year-old Everton goalkeeper John Ruddy, who was on loan at Motherwell last season, for an undisclosed fee.
