Burgh have faith in fans

MUSSELBURGH manager David McGlynn reckons the East Lothian club are being treated unfairly after being told their Emirates Scottish Cup final against Auchinleck Talbot will be played at Rugby Park.

But he is still confident that up to 5000 fans will make the journey through to Ayrshire to back his side on Sunday, May 29 after making it to the showpiece occasion for the first time with a 2-1 aggregate win over Dalry. "It's not that fair when you consider that Auchinleck will have a tenminute journey to Rugby Park whereas it will be more like two hours for our supporters," said McGlynn.

"I'd have thought somewhere in the middle - Hamilton or even Livingston - would have been better and certainly fairer.

"But, having seen five or six buses through at Dalry for the semi-final, I'd like to think we'll have 4,000-5,000 fans cheering us on in the final.

"It's wonderful for the club that we have reached this stage for the first time and I am sure we'll have the whole town behind us in the build up as well as in the game itself."

Leading 1-0 from the first leg, Musselburgh secured their tilt at the trophy with a 1-1 draw at Dalry's Merksworth Park, where the kick-off was delayed to let the large crowd get in.

"It's still not sunk in yet that we are in the final," added McGlynn. "The journey home was a bit surreal, to be honest, and everyone connected with the club is over the moon.

"It is a big thing financially as well, especially after last winter was shocking for us along with many other Junior clubs.

"The players' wages were having to come out of someone's pocket but, in addition to the money we've had from gates through our Cup run, there's also a financial reward for reaching the final.

"That will help with the budget for next season, when I will hopefully be able to keep the players who've set up this big day for the club and the town of Musselburgh."

Before the final, Musselburgh face some more big games, starting tonight with a Fife & Lothians Cup clash away to Bo'ness, who lost 5-1 on aggregate to Auchinleck in the other semi-final.
