Buoyant Burton confident he can cause a stir in Japan

Edinburgh's Euan Burton feels the time is right for him to deliver World Championship glory in Japan.

The 31-year-old judoka leads a 20-strong British team in Tokyo next week having produced consistent results at the major events.

Although he was not able to secure a medal fight at the Beijing Games, Burton has since claimed gold from the GB World Cup in Birmingham, as well as first place at the Swedish Open and the prestigious Tokyo Grand Slam last year.

Following a bronze medal at the 2010 European Championships in Vienna, hopes are high Burton and leading British woman fighter Karina Bryant can continue their fine performances in the Far East.

"It is going to be the best guys in the world out in Japan," Burton said. "It will be a big challenge, but it is pretty much all guys whom I have fought before.

"At the moment, I am very consistent so my goal is to be on the top of the rostrum. I am one of the best in the world at the moment - and now I want to be the best."
