Bruce Douglas returns to join Warriors ... Worcester Warriors

SCOTLAND prop Bruce Douglas will return to British rugby this year with Worcester hoping that it could re-ignite his international career.

Douglas, who won the last of 43 caps against South Africa in 2006 and has Springbok, France and England scalps to his name, left Scotland when the Border Reivers were disbanded in 2007. He joined the Scarlets in Wales before moving on to French club Montpellier. He has now agreed a new two-year deal with the Guinness Premiership side and at still just 30 should come under closer scrutiny of the Scotland coaches.

"That not the only reason for the move, but let's say I don't think it will do any harm," Douglas told The Scotsman. "It was a good move for me and a good offer, and although Worcester are on the brink of relegation at the moment they are making good signings and have big plans for the future.

"I have been a little frustrated at not being involved with Scotland – I think there is a bit of 'out of sight, out of mind'. I know I've been playing well enough, and I've been playing hooker as well as tighthead in the French top 14, to at least merit inclusion in a training squad or 'A' squad.

"But I have had a chat with Andy (Robinson] and that was positive. I still have the desire to be involved at international level and feel I've improved vastly since my last cap. I only just turned 30 two weeks ago so I feel I have a lot of time left yet."

Mike Ruddock, the Worcester and former Wales head coach, agreed, stating: "For a prop he is still a relatively young man at 30 and we believe working with Tony Windo (Worcester scrum coach] he will continue to develop into the prime years in his career.

"Bruce brings experience and a huge work-rate. When he played for Montpellier against us this season he made 15 tackles in the game, which shows what an effective contribution he can make to the team, not only at the set-piece but in broken play."
