Brown's rearguard action frustrates Lions

DOUGIE Brown last night defied Scotland for a second time as the Lions were forced to settle for a draw against Warwickshire.

In a dramatic conclusion to the three-day clash at Rugby School, the Scots collapsed to 117 all out in their second innings. That left the county stars needing 251 for victory from 55 overs and they looked favourites when Richard Johnson made 41 and Calum MacLeod 25.

A topsy-turvy last day then saw the Scots fight back to reduce Warwickshire to 152-7 with 16 overs remaining.

However, the Scots managed just one more wicket as former Saltires star Brown came to his side's rescue again. Brown, who stroked 92 on Wednesday to avoid the follow-on, hit a battling unbeaten 20 to frustrate his countrymen. Majid Haq was the Lions' star, claiming 4-38 after earlier top-scoring with 26 as Scotland's batsmen lost their way during a disastrous morning session.

Meanwhile, the national selectors have delayed finalising their squad to face Notts in their latest CB 40 clash at Trent Bridge on Sunday. They will name a replacement for the injured Neil McCallum today but have shown faith with the remaining 12 players who figured in last weekend's defeats to Durham and Warwickshire. McCallum is nursing an injury and is being rested ahead of next week's ICC Intercontinental Cup game against Afghanistan at the Citylets Ayr ground.

Scotland squad: Gordon Drummond (captain), Fraser Watts, Preston Mommsen, George Bailey, Richie Berrington, Gavin Hamilton, Moneeb Iqbal, Mathew Parker, Dougie Lockhart, Majid Haq, Ross Lyons and Gordon Goudie.
