Brotherhood of Mann as Lindsay seeks card

FORMER Walker Cup player Lindsay Mann is aiming to emulate older brother Fraser by securing a European Senior Tour card at the first attempt.

The first stage of this season’s Qualifying School for the over-50s circuit gets underway today at three courses in Portugal.

Mann, who twice partnered Andrew Oldcorn to foursomes victories at the 1983 Walker Cup match at Hoylake, is among a handful of Scots trying their luck.

Fraser, the long-time Musselburgh professional, got through two years ago and has twice finished just outside the top 60.

Lindsay is in the field at Silves, one of the three courses at the Pestana Resort staging 36-hole events over the next two days.

Joining Mann at Silves are three other Scots – Ian Dougan (State Mines), David James (Senior Golf Circuit Ltd) and Iain Parker (Royal North Devon). Former Northern Open champion Peter Smith launches his card bid at Gramacho, where Albert MacKenzie (Saunton) and Murray White (Penfold Park) are also in the line-up, while the hopefuls at Vila Sol include Edzell club pro Alastair Webster and Terry Burgoyne (Glencruitten).
