British No 2 Aljaz Bedene defeats Agut in Hamburg
Bedene, currently ranked 67th in the world, beat the Spaniard 7-6 (7/2), 7-6 (9/7) to progress to the quarter-finals.

Uruguay’s Pablo Cuevas defeated Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman 7-6 (7/4), 6-4 in the first round while Czech Jiri Vesely is also through after coming from a set down to beat Austrian Andreas Haider-Maurer 3-6, 6-1, 6-0.
Fabio Fognini is also through after he took a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 win over Albert Ramos-Vinolas while Benoit Paire defeated Tommy Robredo 2-6, 6-3, 7-5.
Meanwhile, second seed Feliciano Lopez fought back to defeat Julian Reister and seal his place in the quarter-finals of the Swiss Open in Gstaad yesterday.
The 33-year-old Spaniard, runner-up in the event in 2006, lost the first set before mounting a comeback to record a 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory over the German qualifier to set up a last-eight clash with Santiago Giraldo.
Colombian eighth seed Giraldo eased through with a 6-2, 6-3 win against Turkey’s Marsel Ilhan in the opening match on Centre Court.
Defending champion and fourth seed Pablo Andujar of Spain saw off Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic with a 7-5, 6-2 win in an hour and 46 minutes.
Andujar, who beat Juan Monaco in last year’s final, faces two-times winner Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil in the quarter-finals after the Brazilian also claimed a straight-sets win with a 6-3, 6-2 result against Frenchman Stephane Robert.

Hide AdIn Azerbaijan, top seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova only had a light workout as she progressed to the quarter-finals of the Baku Cup after Kateryna Bondarenko retired early on in their second-round match.
Bondarenko withdrew due to injury after 13 minutes with Pavlyuchenkova leading 3-0. That means the Russian No 1 seed will face either Kristen Flipkens or Vitala Diatchenko in the last eight. Russia’s Margarita Gasparyan also progressed to the quarter-finals with a 6-4, 6-4 win over China’s Yang Zhaoxuan and Donna Vekic booked her place with a 6-4, 0-6, 6-3 victory against Zhu Lin.
Alexandra Panova moved into the quarter-finals thanks to her 7-6 (7/4), 6-2 win over Andrea Hlavackova. Second seed Karin Knapp reached the second round with a straight-sets win over Stefanie Voegele. Italian Knapp came through 6-1, 6-4 in an hour to line up a match with Anett Kontaveit.
Evgeniya Rodina was handed a pass through to the second round when Danka Kovinic retired while losing 6-0, 2-0.
