British diving duo in synch for the bronze

BRITISH pair Megan Sylvester and Monique Gladding claimed European bronze in the Women's 10m Synchro diving at the European Championships in Budapest yesterday.

An excellent effort on the final dive of the day, the Back and Somersault, catapulted them up the standings from fifth to third with a final score of 300.66.

Gold was won by Germany's Christian Steuer and Nora Subschinski with a score of 319.68 and silver went to Iulia Prokopchuk and Alina Chaplenko of Ukraine with 306.30 points.

"I'm so happy to get that medal after what has been a really tough year for both of us," said Gladding. "It's great to turn the corner and show what we can do when we're fit.I had hip surgery this time last year and the recovery from that is a long process but I feel like I'm well on the way and results like this really help."

Sylvester added: "We had a solid list of dives and held it together before saving the best until last for the medal."Francesca Halsall claimed silver in the final of the women's 100m butterfly, which was was won by Sweden's Sarah Sjostrom in 57,32. Halsall came in with 57.40.
