Brad Kirby's high five sparks Scots

Brad Kirby scored five tries as Scotland's Men's 30s team recorded their first win in spectacular style in the Touch World Cup at Peffermill yesterday.

Having lost four and drawn one of their first five matches on Wednesday and Thursday, the team had an early start against Luxembourg yesterday.

However, they showed no tiredness in winning the match 16-2, Kirby's five scores being added to by three from Mark Chiverton, two from John White and Iain Macdonald and one apiece from Alistair Crozier, Ross Alexander, Chris Grady and Ewan McKenzie.

They followed it up later in the day with a 7-7 draw with Germany, Macdonald bagging seven tries in that one.

In the Men's Open category Scotland were involved in a cracker with South Africa before being edged out 6-5. Michael Short led the way with two tries for the hosts, but Rafeeq Slamang and Adnaan Oesman both scored two tries each as the opposition made it home.

Also in that category New Zealand defeated Japan - who were unbeaten up to that point - 20-3. Tivoli Guthrie scored a hat-trick for the Kiwis in that one.

In the Women's Open section Jennifer Wright scored two tries and Anna Thomas, Donna Spence and Fiona Gray also went over as Scotland defeated Japan 5-4.

And the Women's 30s also won in that category, Nicola Crozier scoring a hat-trick and other tries coming from Jen Short, Alison Freshwater, Monica Coyle and Yvonne Jardine in a 7-3 defeat of Austria.

Scotland's Mixed Open side lost early in the day to Niue, but made amends later on with a 11-4 win over Guernsey.

And the tries were shared by seven players as Scotland's Men's 35s defeated Ireland 7-4, while David Matthews scored two tries, but the Men's 40s still lost out 8-5 to Niue.
