Josh Taylor stops opponent in first round

Edinburgh light welterweight boxer Josh Taylor produced another ruthless display last night as he stopped Romanian Daniel Cosman Minescu in the opening round at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast.

The eastern European was simply taken apart by the 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medallist in the Northern Irish capital as Taylor made it a hat-trick of victories since switching to the paid ranks in June.

Minescu appeared overawed by the occasion as the Edinburgh fighter moved around the canvas with relative ease, picking off his opponent at will.

Taylor, 24, who is managed by Cyclone Promotions under the stewardship of former world featherweight champion, Barry McGuigan, will now have a break over the Christmas period before a return to the ring in January, although that is still to be confirmed.

He is, however, expected to appear on the undercard of the unified IBF and WBA world super bantamweight title fight between Carl Frampton and Scott Quigg at the Manchester Arena at the end of February.
