Boxing: Kenny handed title chance

KENNY ANDERSON could fight for the British super-middleweight crown in Edinburgh after the Board of Boxing control confirmed the Celtic 12-stone champion as the mandatory challenger for champion George Groves’ title.

Board bosses have ordered that the title joust go to promoters’ purse bids with a deadline of Wednesday, January 12 and have further ordained that Groves must defend against Capital fighter Anderson by May 2012.

Anderson’s manager Steve Woods revealed: “Our promoters Matchroom and rival promoter Frank Warren are likely to bid for this clash but, if Matchroom win the purse bids, the fight will be put on in Anderson’s Edinburgh hometown.”
