Boxing: Injuries pose career worry for Kris Carslaw

SCOTTISH boxing manager Tommy Gilmour expressed concern about Kris Carslaw’s future after the Paisley fighter suffered the second broken jaw of his career in his defeat by Matthew Hall on Friday night.

Gilmour plans to meet with another of his fighters, Willie Limond, to discuss the 32-year-old’s future after he lost his British lightweight title challenge to Anthony Crolla on the same bill at the Ravenscraig Sports Centre in Motherwell.

However, with Limond’s reputation made and intact, Gilmour is worried more about 27-year-old Carslaw whose unbeaten record ended earlier in the night when Mancunian Hall beat him in their official eliminator for the British light-middleweight title.

“I am much more concerned about Kris’s injuries than Willie’s injuries,” said Gilmour. “It is his second broken jaw and that is a concern. He also has a broken hand. We know he has the courage to come back, he came back the last time but this is a different level.

“You have heavy handed guys like Matthew Hall. He got caught with his mouth open slightly and that’s what caused the damage.”
