Boxing: Bordon hit by heart scare

ONE of Edinburgh's most distinguished boxing coaches, George Bordon, is recovering at his Gorgie home after suffering a heart attack.

Bordon, 61, won the Scottish amateur middleweight and light-heavyweight titles in 1974 and 1976 boxing for the Capital's McTaggart-Scott club but subsequently became a top coach and cornerman to local Eastern pro champions such as middleweight Willie Quinn, British flyweight champion Keith Knox, and was in Alex Arthur's ring corner when he won many of his amateur boxing titles.

Bordon said today: "I thought that I was ultra-fit so I couldn't believe it when I suffered the heart attack while working out. I'll obviously have to take it easy – but the best medicine has been telephone calls from Willie Quinn and Alex Arthur wishing me a speedy recovery.''
