Boxing: Young told to take the fight

THE coach of Gilmerton's Scottish welterweight boxing champion reckons he should pick up the challenge thrown down by rival Craig Windsor.

Windsor's manager, Fauldhouse-based Paul Graham says he wants his man to take on Gary Young for the crown he won against Capital rival Gary McMillan last November.

Graham said: "Windsor – with an unbeaten pro record of 6-0 – isn't as experienced as Young is but we're confident that he could take the title.

"So I'm challenging Young to defend against Windsor, possibly on Frank Warren's world championship bill at Glasgow's Kelvin Hall on 4 September."

And Young's ring coach, former two-time WBO world champion Paul Weir, said: "I would have no hesitation in recommending to Gary that he takes up Graham's challenge.

"Gary has the experience and boxing savvy to beat Windsor, who isn't a big puncher.

"If they can get the fight fixed for the Kelvin Hall show, then that's fine by us."
