Boxing: Young agrees to title rematch with McMillan

SCOTTISH professional welterweight boxing champion Gary Young has agreed to a rematch with Edinburgh rival Gary McMillan.

Gilmerton's Young took the vacant title from Lochend southpaw McMillan on a controversial points decision when the pair clashed in Glasgow back in November.

Young had originally knocked back the McMillan camp's plea for a return but he explained his change of heart, saying: "Circumstances can make fights happen and the fact is that a return match with McMillan could be good for me.

"I have no fears about fighting McMillan again so its now up to his camp to negotiate to make it happen.

"But first I will be taking up an offer from English manager Jim Evans to box a six or eight-rounder south of the border in a fortnight's time against a selected opponent as a warm up for the rematch."

Young added that he and coach Paul Weir had agreed a strategy for 2010 that would see him build up to a potential British title challenge.

McMillan said: "I am glad Gary Young will now give me a return bout. The majority of fans in November disagreed with the points verdict in favour of Young and I relish the chance to put the record straight."
