Boxing: Simmons goes pro with Warren

Leith VICTORIA boxer Steve Simmons has turned professional after signing with promoter Frank Warren to fight at cruiserweight.

Simmons, 25, who won a Commonwealth Games bronze medal in Delhi at heavyweight, enthused: "Promoters don't come any bigger than Frank Warren, who has worked with and progressed heavyweights like Frank Bruno so I'm delighted to be part of his team.

"Cruiserweight means that I will be fighting guys roughly the same size and weight as myself where before as an amateur I sometimes had to give away weight and other advantages to my opponent. I'm also looking forward to working with Ricky Burns' coach and trainer Billy Nelson, who will be in my corner when I make my pro debut on March 12 in Glasgow.

"I'm pushing on so the time to earn some money in the ring is now."
