Boxing: Simmons given London date

CAPITAL cruiserweight boxer Stephen Simmons has been put on alert for a bout at London's O2 Arena by manager Frank Warren on May 21.

The former Leith Victoria Scottish amateur heavyweight champion, who made an early inside the distance stoppage win at Braehead a couple of months ago on his pro debut at Cruiserweight, will box a selected opponent on the undercard of the Jeurgen Braehmer v Nathan Cleverly WBO world lightheavyweight title clash.

"I'm really thrilled to be boxing on this big London world title bill because I could do myself a lot of good with another impressive winning performance," commented Simmons. "Scotland has never really had a top cruiserweight fighter so my long-term aim is to become the first Scottish boxer to win a British cruiserweight title and a Lonsdale belt."
