Boxing: Paulin pulls no punches

Queensferry lightweight, Lewis Paulin, stole the show in Aberdeenshire on Saturday night when he made short work of local opponent John Nichol, demolishing him with a ferocious barrage of punches to notch his fourth consecutive stoppage in five bouts.

Commented Paulin's delighted Queensferry club coach, Mark Geraghty: "Paulin was awesome. He forced Nichol to take two counts thanks to fierce body and head hooks before forcing the referee to jump in during the first round as Nichol was staggering about from Paulin's punches.''

Added Geraghty: "My light-welterweight Sean Spence scored an equally impressive points win over Insch's Stuart Ledingham with a great display of switch hitting and ring movement. It's a win that has boosted Sean's confidence for the Scottish championships on February 26 at Coatbridge.''

However, Geraghty had no excuses for his two boxers who lost on the Aberdeenshire bill saying: "Our welterweight Owen Spence, frankly, had an off-night while losing on points to Ownie McCulloch and our novice light-welterweight, Johnny Hayes, found Elgin's Robert Scorer just too tough being stopped in the first round.''

Geraghty confirmed that his unbeaten Edinburgh pro bantamweight, Dave Cowan, will box against Leeds-based switch hitter Adil Anwar at Aberdeen's Beach ballroom on February 26 on the undercard of Aberdonian Lee McAllister's next Commonwealth title defence in the Granite City.
