Boxing: McEwan poised to fight on undercard of Mayweather bill

ALTHOUGH Capital middleweight Craig McEwan has now firmly resumed his residence again in his hometown, the winner of 19 out of 20 ring battles in the USA has revealed that local boxing fans will have a long wait to see him in action again in Scotland.

McEwan is poised to fight on the undercard of the Floyd Mayweather v Victor Ortega world welterweight title clash in Las Vegas on September 17 and admitted: "Because of contractual reasons which tie me to Golden Boy promotions in Los Angeles for another 12 months, I will be fighting over there.

"My next scheduled fight will be in Las Vegas in September after learning both Golden Boy and American TV channel HBO want me to box ten rounds against a selected opponent on the undercard of the Mayweather v Ortega clash.

"This fight could put me back up the ratings in America after I suffered my first defeat against Andy Lee."

Meanwhile, another Edinburgh boxer, super-middleweight Kenny Anderson, has confirmed that he will fight Sheffield's Lee Duncan over eight rounds at Meadowbank on Alex Arthur's first promotional bill on August 27.

• LOCHEND coach Terry McCormack has appealed to local amateur or pro boxers who are available to help British Masters welterweight champion Gary McMillan ahead of his fight with former British champion Kevin McIntyre on August 27.

McMillan needs a southpaw sparring partner and McCormack said: "We welcome any southpaws between light and welterweight to come and spar with Gary now. The gym is open six days except Satiurdays from 1pm-9pm. All they have to do is turn up and it will help keep them sharp over the summer."
