Boxing: Khan plans to conquer US

WBA light welterweight world champion Amir Khan has promised to beat Paulie Malignaggi in style on Saturday and impress American fight fans on his US debut.

The 2004 Olympic silver medallist will take his career up another rung on the ladder to boxing's big time when he makes his first appearance in the United States at the Theatre at Madison Square Garden in New York.

And although already a world champion at the age of 23, Khan (22-1, 16 KOs) acknowledges that his second title defence is not just an opportunity to settle a score with the trash-talking Malignaggi (27-3, 5 KOs), but a chance to make a good first impression in front of an American television audience.

"I know I will win the fight but I don't just want to win, I want to win it in good style," Khan said. "I want to send a statement out to the States, how good Amir Khan is."
