Boxing: Kenny Anderson keen on fighting British Olympic champion DeGale

And, according to Anderson's coach Kevin Maree, the Capital scrapper is ready to take up the challenge in Birmingham on 18 September.

Confirmed Maree: "We've received a phonecall sounding out Kenny's willingness and availability to fight DeGale, who, like Kenny is unbeaten as a pro boxer - and we aim to grab it.

"It won't affect Anderson's scheduled British title eliminator with Liverpool's Peter Quigley - indeed a fight with DeGale would be excellent preparation.

"The DeGale camp clearly think Anderson is just a useful stepping stone for their man but Kenny is confident he can beat DeGale, who, being a 6ft four southpaw, wouldn't be an easy opponent." Meanwhile, 2010 Commonwealth games contender Josh Taylor has welcomed the news that he and his Scottish squad colleague heavyweight, Steve Simmons, have been alerted about a possible warm-up bout in Sweden before they depart for Delhi, India, later this year. Said Lochend southpaw ace Taylor: "I'd prefer to have a bout in Sweden or anywhere else rather than go into the Commonwealth Games cold as I haven't fought since April thus increasing the risk of ring rust - and I don't want to risk my chances of winning a Commonwealth gold medal due to that."
