Boxing: Josh's split decision

Lochend lightweight Josh Taylor says the British Amateur Boxing Championships in Liverpool between November 12-13 will decide whether he remains an amateur or joins the pro ranks.

Taylor, who won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, said: "If I win a British title then I will be eligible to join the Great Britain team aiming for the London Olympics in 2012 which will guarantee me generous funding. But if I don't, becoming a pro boxer which will be the only financial choice I will realistically have."

Craigmillar's Scottish light-welterweight champion Jason Easton has been tipped to bounce back in Liverpool following a split points defeat to Polish champion Marek Levkowski on Sunday.

Easton's coach, Kenny McCartney said: "The verdict could have gone either way. He will be training hard over the next three weeks.''

Three Craigmillar boxers - youth flyweights, Joe Murray and Brandon Hunter plus senior light-welterweight Lee Daykin, defeated tough English opposition at Moodiesburn's Pivot Centre where Midlothian welterweight Darren Thomson also won on points.
