Boxing: Fans promised a knockout

Queensferry boxing coach Mark Geraghty is promising ringside fans haymakers galore when his boxers challenge English amateur giants, Repton on Friday evening at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange (9.00pm).

The Repton club is based in the boxing heartland of Bethnal Green in London's east end.

Confirmed Geraghty: "Repton are the Arsenal of English amateur boxing having produced champions at every weight for over 50 years.

"We may be comparative newcomers in the Queensferrry club but my top Scottish champion Owen Spence won't be going against Repton star Dean Laughlin with any inferiority complex, and the same applies to Owen's lightweight brother Lee who boxes Jerzy Artyombut.

"Fans will see a good mix of English and Scottish international and novice bouts."

Meanwhile, Edinburgh and Scotland's oldest amateur boxing club, the Leith Victoria, have confirmed they will be sending a 12-man delegation to the induction ceremony in Glasgow in October to the Scottish Hall of Boxing Fame, making the Academy Street outfit the very first Scottish amateur club to be inducted. The club's world flyweight champion Johnny Hill and British champion Jackie Brown were both inducted two years ago.
