Boxing: Easton rested after a mixed bag of Craigmillar results

Club boss Stewart Anderson announced that Scottish senior light-welterweight champion, Jason Easton, would be rested after having lost to Bannockburn-based Hillpark challenger, James Thompson, who unanimously outpointed Easton on all judges' scorecards in a bruising tussle at Bannockburn's Miner's club.

Said Anderson: "Jason has now had six really tough bouts in the last three months. He looked jaded and tired at Bannockburn so we're planning to rest him for a month to recharge his batteries."

However, Craigmillar heavyweight Barry Ceston survived some hefty right-hand punches from Alloa rival, Liam Ross, in the first round to storm to a decisive points victory after three rounds and was joined in the victory stakes by his light-heavyweight clubmate, Lee Daly, who triumphed over big-hitting local Bannockburn hero Steven Sturrock, who never stopped trying to land a decisive shot while being outboxed to lose on points.

Meanwhile, youth featherweight Brodie Robertson notched up a unanimous points win in Carlisle over Villa club opponent Glen Furness.

Craigmillar official Anderson was less pleased by the controversial points decision that robbed his welterweight Usman Hussein 0f victory.

LOCHEND lightweight Josh Taylor was extremely disgruntled by two cautions for alleged misuse of the shoulder which the four-time international gold medal winner attributed to his 6-3 points defeat by Russian Semen Grivashev in the Multi-Nations GEE BEE Tournament in Finland.

Claimed Taylor: "The Russian wasn't penalised for several rule infringements as. I thought I still did enough to win but the points deducted ensured that I didn't."

However, Lochend boxer Taylor's defeat was simply par for the course in the Gee Bee event as Scotland's nine boxers in the event all lost to mainly East European opposition.
