Boxing: Craig McEwan sets a course for title fight

CAPITAL boxing ace Craig McEwan has challenged his manager Oscar De La Hoya to promote him in a title fight at Easter Road - in exchange for a game of golf on the Old Course at St Andrews.

Los Angeles-based middleweight McEwan, unbeaten in 19 pro fights in America, said: "Oscar De La Hoya's dream is to play the Old Course, at least once in his life.

"After telling Oscar that Edinburgh was within easy travelling distance of St Andrews he asked if I had any connections back home who could arrange his game at the Old Course, so thinking quickly on my feet, I made the deal to organise a round in return for a title fight at Easter Road, with other Edinburgh boxers like Gary Young Gareth Stemp and Dave Cowan on the same bill

"Whenever I come home to Edinburgh, boxing fans ask me 'When can we expect to see you boxing in Edinburgh?'

"Similarly, my Edinburgh sponsors Kelvin Lighting would back the Easter Road fight idea 100 per cent."
