Boxing: Craig brings a taste of LA to Tranent

LOS ANGELES-BASED Capital pro middleweight Craig McEwan has struck a reciprocal deal with Alex Brown, owner of the Bronx Boxing Club in Tranent.

McEwan, on the cusp of making the world's top ten after running up an undefeated 18-bout streak in American rings, trains at Freddie Roach's Wildcard gym in LA but has been offered unlimited access to Brown's Tranent gym whenever he's back home.

Explained McEwan: "Alex has given me a key to the gym for life so I can access the gym whenever I come home, between bouts in America, to keep fit."

"In return I've adopted the Bronx club and pledged to spar with their boxers or any other local boxers every time I come home.

"I have been gobsmacked by the facilities which are far ahead of what I enjoyed as an amateur at my Dad's Clovenstone gym in Wester Hailes. I can see myself in the future helping organise trips to LA for promising Bronx boxers to give them career-boosting chances." Gym owner Brown said: "Craig has had an electric effect on the local boxers, firing them up with his message that, if they work hard, they too could be trained by guys like Oscar De Hoya and Freddie Roach."
