Boxing: Bronx club to open with a starry bash

Tranent based Bronx Amateur Boxing Club are providing a chance for fans to meet up with present local ring heroes and some illustrious names from the past when they formally open their new gym doors this Friday.

Bronx club coach Alex Brown confirmed: "We've invited local ring greats like former world lightweight champion Ken Buchanan and ex-welterweight 'Mighty' Malcolm McKenzie to join modern champions like former WBO superfeatherweight Alex Arthur and ex- British featherweight champion Paul Appleby to meet the fans during our gala opening.

"Top East Lothian stars, ex-WBO Continental middleweight champion Willie Quinn and 1992 Barcelona Olympics middleweight from Wallyford, Steve Wilson, have also pledged to attend .

The club will be open from 6pm on Friday and all are welcome to come and rub shoulders with some of east Scotland's best boxers from the last 40 years."
