Boxing: Boxers go west for glory

LOTHIAN boxers head for the new Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility, near Motherwell, tomorrow to compete in the 2011 Scottish Amateur Boxing Intermediate Championships.

The tournament is for fighters who have had between seven and 14 bouts, with Leith Victoria light-flyweight Tylar Gibson leading the eastern challenge as he faces Uddingston's Thomas Logan for the 1998 Schoolboys 42kg title. Meadowbank's Owen Spence will battle for the senior middleweight title but club-mate Lewis Paulin misses out with cracked ribs.

The Holyrood Club have three boxers competing - lightweight Phil Coppola, light-welterweight Martyn Warner and light-heavyweight Brian Forsyth - in the largest individual contingent from a Capital club in the event.

Boxing at Ravenscraig will start at noon and admission is by entry on the door.
