Boxing: Anderson's Kenny move

Edinburgh super-middleweight Kenny Anderson will battle for the £32,000 top purse in the "Prizefighter" tournament at Liverpool's Olympia Stadium on Wednesday, March 23.

The Celtic 12-stone champion, who has opted out of a scheduled bout in Wigan to compete on Merseyside, could go head-to-head with fellow entrants such as former WBC world super-middleweight champion Robin Reid, Liverpudlians Joey Ainscough and Carl Dilks or Welshman Tobias Webb. Matchroom Promotions spokesman John Wischusen said: "Anderson is a late but welcome entry to the Prizefighter show next week in Liverpool. He looked good against Commonwealth champion George Groves last year."

Meanwhile, Anderson's former Meadowbank amateur club coach Peter Glass hailed his former protege's decision to enter the big money show. "I really fancy Kenny's chances of winning the competition as he's a big puncher," he said. "Prizefighter bouts are usually over just four or six rounds which increases his chances because he's always at his most dangerous in all his fights in the early stages.''
