Boxing: Anderson's heavy blow

Kenny ANDERSON'S hopes of grabbing ring glory and a lucrative £32,000 "Prizefighter" jackpot were dashed after he was unable to make the stipulated super-middleweight limit for Wednesday's show at Liverpool's Olympia Arena.

The Edinburgh fighter was set to box against the likes of former WBC champion Robin Reid in a tournament which would have been an excellent showcase for the Celtic super-middleweight champion after a highly creditable but losing performance in Manchester last November in his bid to lift Commonwealth champion George Groves' crown.

Prizefighter tournament organiser John Wischusen confirmed: "It's very sad but Kenny couldn't make the stipulated weight so he had to withdraw from the competition where his place has been taken by Rocky Fielding."
