Boxing: Anderson warned over David

WITH a week to go before Kenny Anderson's British title eliminator clash against Paul David in Glasgow, the Capital boxer has been served fair warning that he will face a tough fight.

Dominic Ingle, the coach of Northhampton super-middleweight contender David commented: "I know just how tough Anderson is likely to be next week against my man at the St Andrew's Sporting club as I watched him beat my light-heavyweight Amir Khan in the amateurs and that highlighted Anderson's strength in in-fighting but Paul has been sparring with world champion Carl Froch – who is a noted in-fighter – so he'll be well prepared for that side of Anderson's style. Anderson shouldn't read too much into David having only four knockout or stoppage wins as, in his last fight, David knocked out Tyrone Wright of Nottingham in spectacular fashion as we've been working on his power," Ingle went on.

Meanwhile, Lochend coach Terry McCormack, who will now be coach and chief cornerman to South Queensferry's featherweight Paul Appleby, confirmed that he and the boxer plan to meet former world champion-turned promoter Ricky Hatton with a view to asking the Mancunian to manage him in future after Appleby's contract with Tommy Gilmour lapsed.
