Boxing: Anderson to limber up for Quigley bout

The Commonwealth gold medallist, who recently joined Ricky Hatton's stable, will be back in action in South Yorkshire as he limbers up for his clash with Liverpool's Tony Quigley in an eliminator for the British belt. He said: "My biggest enemy is ring rust, which accounted for my less-than-impressive win over Patrick Mendy in March in Glasgow.

"So to try to avoid ring rust I'm looking forward to making my debut as a Ricky Hatton- managed boxer in Sheffield on 21 May, where I will probably box an eight-rounder against a selected opponent before the big one against Tony Quigley."

The Liverpudlian is an accomplished operator and a former holder of the British belt.

However, Anderson added: "Some people have suggested that Quigley will be too strong for me but I find that frankly laughable. In 101 amateur bouts I have never been outmuscled or made to back down strength-wise to any opponent. I'm convinced that I am much stronger physically than Quigley is. In any event, I aim to box Quigley on the outside and not get involved in close up confrontations which is his game."

Anderson has also agreed to spar with Edinburgh's Craig McEwan, who is returning from Los Angeles for his wife to have their second child.

MIDLOTHIAN club amateur middleweight, Scott Grant, winner of nine of his last 11 bouts, faces Fauldhouse fighter Lewis Akanlami on the West Lothian club's 12-bout bill tomorrow.
